Stress Related Disorders Affect Brain's Processing Of Memory

Published December 4, 2008, 3:12 am, Medical News Today

Researchers using functional MRI (fMRI) have determined that the circuitry in the area of the brain responsible for suppressing memory is dysfunctional in patients suffering from stress-related psychiatric disorders. Results of the study will be presented at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).

EEGs show brain differences between poor and rich kids

Published December 3, 2008, 6:12 am, EurekAlert!

( University of California - Berkeley ) Prefrontal cortex activity in children from low socioeconomic levels is lower than in similar children from well-off families. The brain differences, documented through EEGs, are dramatic: the prefrontal cortexes of poor kids 9 and 10 years of age react to novel stimuli in the same way as the brain of a stroke victim. The researchers from UC Berkeley and ...

New Study Shows Potential Of Rational Drug Design In Schizophrenia

Published December 1, 2008, 12:11 pm, Medical News Today

In one of the first instances of targeted drug design in psychiatric treatment, University of Pittsburgh researchers have found an experimental agent that shows promise in addressing working memory impairments that occur in the schizophrenia.
